I've heard of babies dying because of what the mother's did before they had them, ie drinking, drugs, or because of diseases transmitted to the unborn through the mother's body, but I have not heard of any cases around here of babies catching infections in a hospital, which probably means they are not common. I do agree that breastfeeding, if possible, does pass on immunity to a lot of illnesses however.
