Allergic reaction to suturesFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netThu, 20 Apr 2000 14:48:25 -0500 (CDT)
(I got my e-mail address wrong the first time so I'm posting again. Sorry if it got sent twice.) Eleven weeks ago, I had a TAH/BSO appy. I'd been complaining about bladder & rectal pain ever since, but was told by the doctor and nurse that it would go away. In addition to this pain, I began having severe muscle fatigue and weakness about 2 weeks ago, and have been experiencing a stinging sensation intermittently throughout my body, primarily in my legs. My hips and back hurt also, and my stomach is swollen. I was so miserable this week that I insisted on seeing the doctor, who immediately diagnosed an allergic reaction to the vaginal sutures and started snipping away. I was placed on a one day antibiotic in case of a UTI, and am on Flagyl for a few more days. My question is, is an allergic reaction to sutures limited to just the area around the sutures, or is it a systemic reaction that would account for this muscle weakness and other problems? I don't return to the doctor for two weeks, so any additional insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
