First, please forgive the delay in your answer, I took my 7yo and 2yo camping this weekend.

You ask a difficult question. Typically, cramping is a symptom of the uterus (leaving aside bowel and urinary system cramping). In most cases, if that is your only symptom, then a hyst would be expected to solve the problem. Now, you will continue to have a hormonal cycle, with all that that entails, bloating, breast tenderness, mood swings, insomnia, whatever you have with your cycle. However, those things that the uterus does would be gone, the bleeding for sure, and the cramping more than likely.

I believe that you mentioned previously that your doctor noted dilated vessels in your pelvis. This is commonly called Pelvic Congestion Syndrome, a poorly understood and somewhat controversial condition that is either a cause of pain, or perhaps a harbinger of pain. Hysterectomy is the surgical treatment of choice, though there are medical treatments as well, including NSAIDs and oral contraceptive tablets.

You have a difficult choice ahead of you. I would still suggest that a second opinion would be a good idea.
