Interstitial cystitis and adenomyosis are totally unrelated. Adenomyosis is when the endometrium grows between the muscle fibers within the uterus. It is sometimes called internal endometriosis. It is extremely dificult to diagnose without doing a hysterectomy to make the diagnosis. Although there have been a few recent studies saying that MRI can be helpful in making the diagnosis.
