If a recurrent AGUS pap occurs, exactly >what tests or things need to be done to monitor the patient? (I hope >mine don't reoccur but I want to have the necessary knowledge if they >do) since I do not want a hysterectomy if I can avoid one. Assuming a complete (and negative) evaluation at the beginning, I would want a pap smear (including endocervical component) every 4 months, along with an endometrial biopsy, for one year. If all are negative, then I would return to yearly screenings. If the AGUS recurs, I would repeat the original workup, along with a LEEP or cone biopsy, and manage what I found (and leave it alone if I don't find anything).
