Leg cramps and aches are known side effects of the pill. The low doses of hormones these days make blood clots unlikely, but they may rarely occur. If blood clots do form, there are usually specific signs of the clot that would be different than the leg cramps. If you have had a previous problem with blood clots, there is an increased risk for clot formation. Lastly, if there is a concern for clotting, certain blood tests can be performed to assess an increased risk.
