The nose and tongue close up almost immediatly after >removal of the piercing, but not the naval. Hope this helps. Navel and ear piercing will close over if left empty. It may take longer than with tongue, but it will happen in most people. Remember there are always exceptions. The main reason for removing the ring is that it is not flexible. The skin around the navel stretches a lot, the ring won't. It can lead to some problems in some ladies where it will tear out. Flexible plastic, or even a LARGE fishline will keep things open and won't tear out. Remember some people can blindfold themselves and walk across the Freeway and not get hit. Just cause they got away with it doesn't make it a good idea. RDB
