Healing after childbirth

I am curious to know how long does it take for stitches to properly heal after childbirth. I was told that I had the highest level of stitches, (from one hole to the other) when I gave birth. After five weeks, generally are they healed enough to not worry about them coming open or whatever if I wanted to get a bath rather than a shower? When is an okay time to start taking baths again? Thanks.
