A couple of issues are involved here. Is the same bacteria showing up in the cultures? Is the bacteria susceptible to the macrobid? If there is reccurence of the infection with the same bacteria despite full, adequate antibiotic treatment, either there is re-infection or a persistant source of infection in the urinary tract. Either of these cases would warrant a consult with a urologist.
