GYN vs Primary Care Physician

After my hyst last year, I choose to stay with my gyn for on going care for menopause symptons and general gyn care. Is this unusual with most women and do doctors prefer you go back to your primary care physician. I don't want to be unfair to my gyn, and he hasn't turned me away, but am I asking too much of him to continue prescribing my hormones and seeing me on a yearly basis for my annual pelvic, etc. How do most doctors feel about this?
