Hysterectomy question

I just had a hysterectomy a couple of months ago and was wondering if they always seal off the ovaries during surgery. My hyst was abdominal and subtotal. They only took the upper segment of my uterus. I still have a full cervix and ovaries. My operative report states nothing about him sealing off the ovaries. Is this just common knowledge that the dr's always seal the ovaries off during a hyst? Can they leave them open? And what does happen when an ovum is oveulated? Is it just absorbed by the body? Thanks for the info in advance.
