Adhesions and HormonesFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 23 Mar 2000 08:21:28 -0600 (CST)
I have had 2 laprascopic surgeries to look for endometriosis as I seem to have all of the symptoms. The first lap in '96 was performed by Dr. Paul Perry, who is a very-well known specialist in the pelvic pain/endo field. He did not find any endo. But due to bowel problems I was having, he had prepped me for possible surgery involving the colon. He did find pelvic adhesions on my colon and excised them... My pain was greatly relieved but only for about a year. My 2nd surgery in '98 was done by a different doctor who found no endo or adhesions... I have the same symptoms as most of the women in this forum who have or are suspected as having adhesions.... with one minor difference. Birth Control pills seem to greatly reduce my pain and most of my physical symptoms. The problem is, I do not tolerate BC pills very well at all. They tend to cause me to become extremely withdrawn and depressed even while taking anti-depressants. My current doctor has mentioned trying the Lupron, but at this point, I'm really afraid of any hormone therapy due to really bad mental/emotional experiences in the past. I am not married and have no children as it is hard to date and have an active social life with pain or emotional problems which seem to be my choices at this time. I've decided surgery would be a last resort as it just seems to make adhesions worse... My question is about the hormones... I normally bleed (just from a cut/injury, etc.) very easily and takes a while to clot. When on BC pills, my blood flow seems to be much less free and I bruise less easily and cuts/injuries clot much faster. Could this be the reason BC pills help? If so, which hormone estrogen/progesterone would be the culprit? Thanks in advance for any responses....
