Montgomery, MD: "Re: 7weeks pg fetal pole &hb, sac too small" I am seven weeks pregnant (only previous pregnancy ended in miscarriage). I had some spotting which now seems to have stopped. The ultrasound this week showed a fetal pole and heartbeat normal for dates but the sac half the size it should be 8mm instead of 14mm. The midwife was not able or willing to give an idea of the likelihood of success of the pregnancy but I got the feeling that the chances are poor. She said that I may miscarry within the next week. Has anyone heard of this before? Or have any idea of the causes? I feel so depressed but if things aren't going to work I'd still rather know now than hang on to false hopes.
