Re: A week off Climara, and no symptoms.......From: D.N. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 7 Mar 2000 12:32:18 -0600 (CST)
Hi, Symptoms of menopause after a total hyst and BSO are usually pretty severe. Symptoms may be lessened if someone is overweight because estrogen is in the fat cells. However, if this is not the answer, then you may have reason to be concerned. I also have had a complete hyst with LSO and then later RSO. After the last surgery I did have very severe menopausal symptoms. I started HRT after 3 weeks and then about 4-5 months later I started having pain that felt like ovulation. After charting my symptoms and my basal temperature and transvaginal ultrasound and blood tests showed that I still had some ovary left. It seemed that the HRT stimulated the remnant into working. It might have stayed dormant longer if I had not been on the HRT. It would have started giving me problems sooner or later, it just happened sooner. Where are your cramps? Do they feel like a period? Are your symptoms cyclical at all? Do you keep a calendar with your symptoms? If not, it can be helpful to both you and your doctor in diagnosing what is going on. How long have you been on the patch? I hope this information helps, if you have anymore questions, please feel free to e-mail me. Best wishes,
-- D.N.
