Is this menopause?From: Holly (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 28 Feb 2000 21:46:32 -0600 (CST)
I am 22 years old and I am at my wits end. Since then I have been having problems with my period such as extreme cramping(sometimes with vomiting), heavy bleeding and spotting between periods. My periods are very irregular and a couple years ago they were like clockwork. I get night sweats and hot flashes. I am losing my hair, I am very forgetful and I often get depressed. My mom mentioned these are all symtoms of menopause. She is 48 and just started going through these things recently. I also noticed that these things started happening after my last pregnancy and a tubal ligation in sep. of 98. I have seen my OB/GYN about 10 times and usually he just says "these things happen sometimes" or "this isn't uncommon" "this is not the beginning of menopause". This last time I saw him he gave me some Vioxx for my cramping, tested my thyroid(came back fine) and suggested I start using birth control. I turned him down on the BC because I know that there has to be a reason this is happening and I just dont see what BC would do. I think it would just mask the symtoms and we wont find out what is wrong. Also the whole reason for getting my tubal ligation was because I didnt want to worry about a pill to keep me from getting pregnant and now I am suppose to take it again and for what! I am so frustrated! I could use some help here. Should I go ahead and take the BC? Should I see someone else? What do other OB/GYN's do?
