Re: pregnancy and obesityFrom: C Twisdale RN (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 31 Jan 2000 19:48:20 -0600 (CST)
Congrats on your pregnancy. As you know, pregnancy is not the time for any drastic or fad dieting. Yes you will gain some weight during pregnancy. However, your MD can work out a healthy eating plan for you so that your weight gain is adequate and healthy. Yes the added weight does put you at a higher risk for blood pressure or diabetic type problems. For this reason it is crucial that you start early prenatal care. You ask about risk of c-section. Alot of that depends on size of your pelvis. It is a common misconception that larger ladies always have a big pelvis! Yes your weight and height figure into the picture, but are not the only factors in determining c section risk. Sounds like you are on the right track gathering info. Again congrats on the pregnancy and good luck!
