A Hymenotomy is a surgery wherein the hymen is removed or (more commomly) opened. This is usually done in the situation where the patient has an imperforate or closed hymen, usually shortly after her uterus begins to bleed for the first time, and it can't come out. Much less commonly it is performed to deal with "virginity", though I have never been asked to do so, and doubt that I would in most circumstances. Potentially the proceedure could leave scars that were much worse the hymen itself, leading to pain with intercourse.

Perineoplasty is a reconstructive proceedure done for women who have distortions of the perineum, that area between the vagina and the rectum. As these distortions are virtually always the result of childbirth, it tends to be associated with the other end of a woman's reproductive life, as is frequently bundled with other proceedures for bladder and rectal support, as well as hysterectomy, though all of these are stand alone proceedures.
