Bloody vaginal discharge in infantsFrom: A (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 26 Jan 2000 22:10:58 -0600 (CST)
I would like an answer from a peadiatric gynaecologist if possible. When my daughter was 10/11 months old, she had a bloody discharge from her vagina. This happened only once, and was not extremely heavy, only a half a teaspoons worth of blood. I took her to the paediatrician for an examination, and was told it was "probably" hormonal, but that she had never seen anything like it before in a baby so old, although it is common in newborns. I asked my gynae who had the same answer. I was still breastfeeding at that time, and after speaking to my mother, discovered that I had the same type of thing when I was 13 months old, and my sister had had the same at 30 months, both of us had only been breastfed for the first 3 months of life, so I doubt that my hormones had anything to do with it. I am intersted to know what the cause is, and if hormonal, what hormonal changes caused it. Thanks in advance,
