Allegra and PregnancyFrom: Dan (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 7 Jan 2000 12:05:19 -0600 (CST)
My wife became pregnant 7 weeks ago. For the first 5 weeks she did not take her Allegra. We looked at prescription warnings on the bottle and did not see one concerning pregancy except ask your Doctor. We then asked our OB whether my wife could take it and she said she wasn't familiar with it, but indicated its probably just an antihistimine and so go ahead and take it. My wife took normal dosage the next day and began miscarrying within 24 hours. I have done some research since and found that rats had post implantation problems and that Allegra is basically contra-indicated with pregnancy. Why did not my wifes OB know this? She is smart and professional. Is the general medical community familiar with Allegra and its side effects and my experience was a fluke or is some further study needed of actual use of Allegra during pregnancy by the medical establishment and education of current practitioners.
