Help! MRI test for a Fibroid,Why?From: Jennifer (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 6 Jan 2000 12:57:02 -0600 (CST)
I am 30yrs old diagnosed with a 3cm fibroid.Last two years I have had heavy, prolonged periods and bad cramps, dull ache at times.Had 2 ultrasounds already-at separate facilities. 1st ultra said 2.5cm(pelvic)fibroid mass. After 1st ultrasound have constant needle like pain in pelvic area down to thigh. 2nd ultrasound 6mo later-- 3cm(transvag)abnormal uterine mass. During the exam the tech told me it was located in the middle of my uterus inside the endometrium. Is this what is called a subserous tumor? The nurse called and asked me to make a appt for a MRI, Is this normal follow up procedure? I thought ultrasound usually sufficed for diagnosis. Are these hard to see with ultrasound? What can an MRI seee that ultrasound cannot. Thanks.
