Jim - Dr Burkitt gave his lecture here in Fairbanks many years ago in the
winter. I remember well the colored slides of the natives going into the
bushes in the morning, and the photos Dr. B took of their cow-plop-like
stools. They did not suffer from hemorrhoids or varicose veins as I recall.
It was a Friday that he lectured. The next morning I ate a big bowl of All
Bran, and then we went out to a remote cabin for the weekend. In the middle
of Saturday night, with the temp about -30F, I had an urgent need to go out
to the outhouse.
Not connecting the All Bran and this unusal nocturnal event, the next
morning I ate another large bowl of All Bran, with subsequent cramps and
diarrhea.
Thus I learned that Fiber is good, very effective, and does have a proper
dose.
