Jim - Dr Burkitt gave his lecture here in Fairbanks many years ago in the winter. I remember well the colored slides of the natives going into the bushes in the morning, and the photos Dr. B took of their cow-plop-like stools. They did not suffer from hemorrhoids or varicose veins as I recall.

It was a Friday that he lectured. The next morning I ate a big bowl of All Bran, and then we went out to a remote cabin for the weekend. In the middle of Saturday night, with the temp about -30F, I had an urgent need to go out to the outhouse.

Not connecting the All Bran and this unusal nocturnal event, the next morning I ate another large bowl of All Bran, with subsequent cramps and diarrhea.

Thus I learned that Fiber is good, very effective, and does have a proper dose.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
