UltrasoundFrom: Sailaja (sailaja@us.ibm.com)Mon Sep 13 11:45:18 1999
My husband and I are very concerned about the effects ultrasound has on the fetus when done early on in the pregnancy. I am in my 18th week of pregnancy (41/2 months) and have had 5 ultrasounds already. All ultrasounds except for one used M-Mode. There was one ultrasound where the technician asked if we wanted to hear the baby's heart beat. Since we were ignorant about the possible effects US could have on the fetus we agreed to let the technician use Doppler-Mode for the Ultrasound. The reason for the doctor prescribing so many US was that there was a possibility of an early miscarriage and also because of my past history I was being tested for incompetent cervix. We are very concerned about the effect of US on the fetus. I am only in my second trimester and I have two more regular US scheduled. Thanks in advance for your response.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
