I much prefer the true coronal view because it not only shows the high riding 3rd vent. But also allows calculation of the 3D cranial volume. It is also easier to acquire, includes a BPD, allows evaluation of the symmetry of the brain and a view of the bodies of both ventricular bodies (in cross section), and in our population of 2001 measurements of the vertical cranial diameter (VCD) was achieved in 90% of fetuses in which a BPD was measured. These measurements were made by 12 different sonographers in 4 different clinics, so it is not just the hands of one or two operators.

See DuBose TJ, FETAL SONOGRAPHY, W. B. Saunders Co. 1996, p. 167.

Agenesis of the corpus callosum: Role of mid sagittal views of fetal brain ?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

1) What do you think of the systematic use of the mid sagittal views in the screening of agenesis of the corpus callosum?

2) In your experience, are these views always possible, useful and of good quality ?

3) In a recent French series of 165 cases, colpocephaly is absent in 25 % of the complete agenesis and in 33% of partial agenesis. I don't' find similar features in others series or publications. Have somebody a similar experience?

Thanks for your answers

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
