Martin,

The diagnosis of incompetent cervix is not present in your wife's case. It is defined as cervical dilation in the absence of symptoms. At her earliest dilation she had had a week of pain. This is not helped by cerclage and it was not placed.

Medications can be used to arrest labor and may permit your wife to carry your baby to a viable age. The baby may suffer from very severe problems if it is born in this early viable period. If your wife has any infection to cause the labor, trying to stop it is contraindicated & dangerous. You need to sit down with her doctors about these difficult problems.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
