A password would require that professionals register to use this site. We may have to do that, but it would be an impediment. Also we probably would register people who never came back, then we would have to make policies about how long your "account" can be kept up when you are inactive, etc. When I find a question that I want to answer, I find the email address of the sender, and send them a private answer. Those that I do not want to answer (the vast majority) I just delete and assume Terry will send them a message. This puts a big workload on Terry, so maybe Terry needs some designated assistants who would have the responsibility to send the obvious nonprofessional, who is making an inquiry about their health or pregnancy, a routine message (perhaps it could be something like a MACRO) directing them to the other place. I have looked at the answers that the patients get on the other place, and I am not impressed. It appears that anyone can answer any question. Many of the people answering have no initials after their name, and many have initials that I am not familiar with. And many of the answers really are not at a professional level. So, those questions that are right down my alley, I answer privately. Some of the messages that we do get from the nonprofessionals do express the fear and uncertainty of the patient, particularly in pregnancy. I am not a very softhearted guy. In fact, just the opposite, but some of these questions evoke in me the desire to try and help. I have to give credit to these people for turning to the web - some of them obviously are not highly educated (judging from their command of written English). I have expressed before my feeling (not all of you agree) that many of these questions reflect badly on the amount of communication the patient's health provider provided and on the confidence the patient has in that provider. I am aware that some patients can never be satisfied with the information they are given, or have confidence in no one. Joseph A Worrall MD RDMS

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
