Re: breast phantomFrom: James S Smeltzer MD (gaperina@mindspring.com)Mon Jan 18 18:45:25 1999
Sally, One I use for cordocentesis practice is to use 1 cup sugar per 500 ml hot h2o & in this grapes float. Place grapes in glove with mixture & then in jello with color dye produce stand-off that is opaque. The fellows must spear grapes 5/5 without miss & then can do cordocentesis [If the grapes not hit within <1mm of center they are deflected to side & if they are hit too soft as well & if hit too hard come off of 22 Ga needle]. Others have developed breast phantoms which require less cooking & produce - for about $125 - breast simulations which are pretty good. Personally I hold the breat mass between my fingers and nail it with the FNA needle & use a combination of palpation & US to find the mass. Jim Smeltzer MD Jim Smeltzer

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
