Re: Ivemark SyndromeFrom: Lenna Levitch (llevitch@kumc.edu)Wed Jan 13 15:49:53 1999
According to the genetics literature in some families there appears to be data supporting autosomal recessive inheritance (parental consanguinity was present in these families) but most of the time Ivemark syndrome is sporadic. Overall empiric recurrence after the birth of a single case is 5% or less. However it is prudent to offer these patients ultrasound during subsequent pregnancies stressing that the majority of times this does not reoccur. Hope things go well for your couple! The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
