Re: hysterosonogramFrom: Bill King (billking@cros.net)Wed Aug 26 18:28:33 1998
I would suggest that the sonographer who is newly interested in hysterosonograms look into a VHS copy of TRANSVAGINAL SONOHYSTEROGRAPHY: Technique, Instrumentation, Practical Hints and Potential Pitfalls. Anna S. Lev-Toaff, M.D. , Length 23:30. I found this to be a very helpful video. It was available through Ackrad Laboratories, 70 Jackson Drive, Cranford, New Jersey 07016. Attn: Statco Medical Division. Phone: 1-800324-6090. Fax: 1-216-779-5932 Also, by attending a local, state, SDMS or AIUM seminar, you can learn what other facilities are using as far as a hysterosonogram kit. There are specific kits available, or just the catheters. Some facilities use pediatric infant feeding tubes to instill the fluid. And I believe there is a relatively new catheter designed with a cap on the end developed specifically for hysterosonogram. My personal hints would be to make sure the saline for installation is warmed before the exam and to tell the patient to take over-the-counter motrin about 1 hour before the exam to lessen any cramping they may feel.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
