Re: Developing AccretaFrom: Terry J. DuBose, M.S., RDMS (DuBoseTerryJ@Exchange.UAMS.edu)Sat Aug 22 17:11:54 1998
Martin, whether or not accretia, increta or percreta can be diagnosed via sonography is controversial, certainly it is not possible to detect all cases. You should search both the Ultrasound@OBGYN.net and http://forums.obgyn.net/forums/ob-gyn-l/ for those terms. I just did and found 36 and 150 messages discussing "accreta", respectively. As far as in-vitro, I know of no direct correlation between in-vitro procedures and abnormal placenta implantations. However, there is a strong correlation between scarring of the endometrial uterine lining and placenta accreta - percreta. There is also an association with scarring of the fallopian tubes and infertility. I can see that there may be some link between the things that could cause fallopian tube and endometrial scarring . So there may be some increased incidence of placenta accreta and in-vitro populations. But I do not know of any research or publications on this. I would suggest you watch this space, I suspect you will generate a thread of discussion on it. That being said, I will put my E-sheriff hat/badge and request that if you are a medical professional, please identify your self as such on this list. If you are not a medical professional then please post this type of question on the Women's Health side of OBGYN.net. if you want to understand why I request this, please read the guidelines for posting for this list at the bottom of the page. Thanks. Peace, Terry J. DuBose, M.S., RDMS Chair, Ultrasound@OBGYN.net

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
