Nancy, it is not necessary to defend yourself. There were several problems that led to my curt message. I was in the middle of two weeks of vacation with very little time to deal with over 100 messages... however, that is not an excuse.

The primary problem was the message went to three different lists. Perhaps, I should have responded only to you individually, or to the Ultrasound@OBGYN.net <mailto:Ultrasound@OBGYN.net> list only. Recently, there has been some concern about questions being asked on the professional list from persons that do not identify themselves as professionals. These, for the most part, are women with health concerns. We want to keep all those kinds of questions on the Women's Health side of OBGYN.net because there are professionals there to help answer the questions, as well as other women who have had similar situations and tend to act as a support group. Also, by keeping those questions on the Women's Health side, others with similar conditions can search and read what has already been said.

Your questions seemed fairly knowledgeable, but we often have lay persons who have talked to a health care professionals and who ask some sophisticated questions. We also have people who want 2nd opinions or 2nd guesses about a diagnoses or therapies. There was even a woman from Japan who wanted a 2nd opinion to contradict her physician's recommendation for surgery. Clearly we can not enter into those kinds of issues... long distance.

The other lists are only accessible by subscription, whereas Ultrasound@OBGYN.net <mailto:Ultrasound@OBGYN.net> is archived and available to anyone who has access to the Web. We have discussed implementing some sort of membership with password protection, but that introduces other problems, not the least of which the huge expense of managing such a list. So far we have been able to keep the OBGYN.net fairly well organized by simply Emailing people and pointing them in the correct direction. But, if we do not keep the Professional side separate from the Women's Health, Medical Industry, Spanish and Portuguese sides, then the numbers of messages become unmanageable and confusing... and much harder to find that which each individual is interested.

Thanks for identifying yourself as a Sonographer. That is also a courtesy that Ultrasound@OBGYN.net <mailto:Ultrasound@OBGYN.net> likes. The other lists are a bit more lax on this point... and there are those on the professional list that have been here so long that the "old-timers" know who they are, so we also lapse. This is a new experiment, intended to let professionals the world over to discuss sonographic issues and show their interesting, rare, and problem cases with one another. Please be assured that you are welcome here. I am glad you got some good answers. Thanks for your interest.

I didn't think it was necessary to defend myself in order to refreshen my knowledge. Maybe I asked questions too basic, by that usually proves benificial, as there is always overlapping information, of what is already known and hopefully new info. I'm the kind of person that uses a toothbrush to clean an area, just too make sure I get every bit.

Evidently I knew enough to pass the 3 registry exams the first time. But please excuse me for being out of the swing of things for a few years. Now I am back in the job market and need to refreshen & sharpen. Perhaps this wasn't the best place to do it, according to one person. But my thanks to the rest of you!

There were others that thought the subject of my questions were worthy of consideration enough in which to do research:

2 vessel cord: Hobbins in 1995 C.M.: Nyberg - 1991 Petorias - 1992 Nucal fold Crane - 1994 Miller 1994

which Wayne Persutte so helpfully provided. Thanks Wayne! Also Dawn Miller, Audrey, Joy Scott & Janet were very informative!

This reminds me of when I took Analytic Geometry and Calculus in college. I was one of a few girls in a mostly male-filled class. We were offered the opportunity to ask questions of our homework before the test was given. I was sure that I didn't know as much as the rest of them, because I was the one that asked the majority of the questions. I thought, "What do I have to lose, but to look the fool." When the test results came back, I found that I had blown most of them out the water! I learned a valuable lesson that day about intimidation, pride & perserverance. Nancy, R.D.M.S. in Abd & OB/GYN (as you know the 1st test was in Physics, just in case you are counting which 3 tests)

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
