There is an interesting series of articles in the current White journal (US in OBGYN), June, 1998. There are actually 3 articles, and an editorial. One of the articles follows-up on children with 10-14 week Nuchal transucencies, with follow-up out to 7-75 months age. However, the Editorial does have a few criticisms of the articles, particularly the lack of consistent methodology and protocol, gives good references.

Perhaps it is time for some one to do a literature review for publication on the OBGYN.net on this topic. There certainly does not seem to be a consensus yet... may be we could encourage some common ground.

I would but will not have time to do it for some time (months). Thanks.

Peace, Terry J. DuBose, M.S., RDMS

	Hi OnebornJoy,

Amnio detection rates are still the Gold standard ~100%. I do not think it is the equipment - as I have seen it equally well with high and low end with TVS. It is the sonographers and the sensitization.

y'all know the people who claim to have invented ultrasound lived here in Scotland and the Queen Mothers Hospital has A#0ne equipment..I wonder if its their technicians and equipment that cam up with such high detection ratesor was it just the hospital in London? >Also to detect this wee "bump" doesn't the ababy have to be in the right position and therefore may take quite a while or several tries to see it? ..sure beats the amnio detection rates tho. >Blessings >Tania >

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
