Birth weigh observations

Over my span of ultrasound career (16yrs) I have seen something that cannot be adequately explained. OB patients that test high on the one hour glucose challenge and normal on the three hour seem to show more fetal weight gain in the last 6 weeks of pregnancy. I have the opportunity of following these ladies from first trimester, second trimester and third trimester scans. A high ratio of these bigger babies come from mom's who intake a higher amount of sugar in the last few weeks. Docs I have talked to about this cannot explain..any thoughts from the folks? Is there a condition of pregestational diabetes?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
