I am pleased to announce that New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson signed HB 498 into law today - the first sonographer licensure statute in the United States ! While there wasn't a formal public signing ceremony, the legislation represents an important first step in ensuring quality sonography services and patient safety in New Mexico. The landmark legislation will also likely serve as a springboard for other states who wish to establish sonographer licensure. SDMS will play a key role in these legislative efforts as well in the regulatory issues that must now be addressed in New Mexico.

There will be a more formal announcement to the SDMS membership and sonography community in the morning but I wanted you to be among the first to know.

Let me know if you have any questions.

- Don K

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
