Tomorrow's Doppler's BirthdayFrom: DuBose, Terry (DuboseTerryJ@uams.edu)Fri Nov 28 09:08:12 2008
"In 1845, Christian Doppler <http://www.answers.com/topic/christian-doppler> conducted experiments having musicians play tunes on flatbed railway trains, while people with perfect pitch wrote down the changing notes they heard as the train approached and then receded. This confirmed the findings of a mathematical formula he had come up with three years earlier - the Doppler Effect <http://www.answers.com/topic/doppler-effect> . It shows that the perceived frequency of a sound <http://www.answers.com/topic/sound> , light <http://www.answers.com/topic/light> or radio wave <http://www.answers.com/topic/radio-wave> depends on the speed of the source relative to the observer. Doppler was born on this date in 1803." Christian Andreas Doppler (29 November 1803 - 17 March 1853) was an Austrian <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austria> mathematician <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathematician> and physicist <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physicist> . He is most famous for what is now called the Doppler effect <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doppler_effect> , which is the apparent change in frequency <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frequency> and wavelength <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wavelength> of a wave <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wave> as perceived by an observer moving relative to the wave's source. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
