Dear Sir Ramzy
Even if the cord does not have knots but it is wrapped around baby neck ( multiple times ) this may pose a threat at the time of delivery if the baby is delivered head down. It is not very hard to imagine the case. Also is cord is twisted inside the womb this will shorten amount of food and oxygen delivered to baby.
And yes, ultrasound and monitoring baby's heart should be a must at the time of delivery. Unfornately it does not always happen or not at all.Regards
Corina

Dear Corina
You are right, but only if you are talking about the "true" knots of the cord along its length (away from the neck), just as when you tie a rope around itself. This definitely causes changes in the foetal heart rate and only (rarely) if tight enough may kill the baby. But this has nothing to do with a cord being looped around the neck of the of the baby which may be complete as in a complete loop around the neck or incomplete like when you place a scarf on your neck. Both as I mentioned both will not kill the baby. True knots are rare, spontaneously occurring, more in long cords (more than 50 cm.) and are discovered only accidentally.
I hope now dear Corina that I am of some help.
All the bestAbdel-Maguid Ramzy

Dear VikasI am very sorry about losing your baby. Let me tell you this: the doctors should have monitored at least baby heart if not performing an ultrasound. The cord around the neck can be a threat while baby is inside the womb by cutting off baby's food, oxigen supply. The risc is increased at the time of delivery but again the doctors should at least monitor baby's heart. I agree it is called 'gross negligence' of doctors.I live in America and while an ultrasound is not performed at the time of delivery at least they monitor baby's heart for signs of distress. So dear sir Ramzy , let's all do our job so we can start with right foot in the world not the wrong one.
