Bachelors in Diagnostic Medical SonographyFrom: Joel Thomas (nwaff@cox.net)Tue Nov 20 20:19:32 2007
Hello forum, I am a 24 year old father of 3 with another child due in July. I say that to let you know that I have to be sure of my career path before I take the road, even though I should have started before now. I am at a fork in that road, a fork that leads to BSN or to a Bachelor's in DMS. I am taking pre-req's currently for a bachelors degree. I was tunnel visioned to the BSN then CRNA(Nurse Anesthetist) route. Now I am considering Diagnostic Medical Sonography after seeing that the local AHEC offers a Bachelors option and I have close to the required pre-req's already completed. What is the future of DMS? What are the advancement opportunities? The pay rate online was +/-$52,000/year median. Are their opportunities to make significantly higher with added education? Nursing seems great as the door is wide open. Is the DMS door as wide? I cannot find information that is solid enough online to ease my mind and when I go speak with AHEC, I have a preconceived notion they will paint the "it is great" scene. But, maybe it is. Thank you and I apologize if this post is not relevant to the board it was posted on. I am new here as I am sure you can tell. J. Thomas

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
