Strep B can reach the baby also through the mouth and the nose. Best wishes. Salvatore Annona http://www.annona.it

I was able to deliver my son vaginally even though I was strep B positive. The OB started me on IV antibiotics when he induced my labor and my son was fine.

On the other hand, I had my daughter via c-section but she still became ill due to the strep B (per the OB).

Just to put this in order, I had the c-section first and then the VBAC. I found out I was strep B positive through my daughter becoming sick after the c-section. The only way I know of that it could have been passed to her was through the fetal scalp electrode as it was my understanding that strep B resides in the vagina and that is the way the baby acquires it. Please correct me if I am incorrect on how it is acquired.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
