billing pelvic sonograms with endovaginal procedureFrom: Pamela (pwickkiser@msn.com)Mon Oct 22 20:28:21 2007
What is the standard of care when ordering an ultrasound of the pelvis for indications like enlarged uterus, DUB or pelvic pain? There seems to be some controversy over whether to order a transvag vs transabdominal My personal opinion is to order the transabdominal to obtain an overview and then order the endovag if further investigation is needed. When we perform both of these exams they are billed. Is this the protocol used by OB/GYN's? Some of my OB/GYN's are insisting that just endovag should be performed. I understand when the the indication is for Postmenopausal bleeding or early preg needs to be have an endovag.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
