Re: Clinical Verification on ARDMS exam formFrom: James Smeltzer (James.Smeltzer@wellstar.org)Sun Jul 8 06:27:35 2007
The requirement does leave open the possibility of a formal training program in a hospital or clinical setting, which is what we have done. This works if the specification of the core curriculum and the documentation of hours spent is planned, agreed to and documented, these would be the critical elements to satisfy the requirement for a formal program. It also leaves open the pathway to certification of sonographers who have gone through non-approved programs if they can find employment in sonography. Obviously, the route which is becoming "standard" is through standard experiences at approved programs, which is good. Except the only problem with the emphasis on CME and formal training is that it puts the locus of responsibility for currency of practice and skills on someone other than the sonographer (CME instructors, formal program instructors). This may be more efficient and more uniform. I am not sure that it is the best model. What do you think? JSS

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
