Vaginal bleeding is NOT a contraindication to doing the vaginal portion of an ultrasound study. E.A.Lyons MD, FRCP(C) OC Prof of Radiology, Ob/Gyn and Anatomy Health Sciences Center University of Manitoba -----Original Message----- From: ultrasound@obgyn.net [mailto:ultrasound@obgyn.net] On Behalf Of Martha Sent: Wednesday, July 04, 2007 2:55 PM To: Multiple recipients of list ULTRASOUND Subject: Transvaginal Ultrasound during menstrual cycle or other bleeding. When i was an ultrasound student 20 yrs ago, I was taught NOT to do a trans vag exam on patients who have heavy bleeding (of any kind) because it could cause infection or obscure the anatomy. Ive worked primarily in a department since the that has very few female pelvic ultrasounds. Ive always re-scheduled a patient if she is in the first few heavy days of her period. Is this the norm or have "we" been doing them at any time?? Even if the patient is having heavy bleeding due to other causes. Thank you !!
