When i was an ultrasound student 20 yrs ago, I was taught NOT to do a trans vag exam on patients who have heavy bleeding (of any kind) because it could cause infection or obscure the anatomy. Ive worked primarily in a department since the that has very few female pelvic ultrasounds. Ive always re-scheduled a patient if she is in the first few heavy days of her period. Is this the norm or have "we" been doing them at any time?? Even if the patient is having heavy bleeding due to other causes. Thank you !!

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
