The AIUM accreditation application does ask about transducer cleaning, and as Dr. Copel mentioned, practices seeking accreditation must adhere to the guidelines found at http://www.aium.org/publications/statements/_statementSelected.asp?statement=27. The guidelines state that the probe must be wiped, washed, rinsed, and soaked in a high level disinfectant.

A list of FDA-approved high level disinfectants can be found at http://www.fda.gov/cdrh/ode/germlab.html. Conditions for attaining high level disinfection are in the right-hand column of the table. If you plan to use this list, please remember that not all of these products are safe for ultrasound transducers, and you need to check with your equipment manufacturer before buying any product.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
