I think the AIUM accreditation app asks about probe care. It might be interesting to see if there is a standard. The hospital system I worked for took vag probe disinfection seriously. For years we soaked in glutaraldehyde. Soak time 20 min. It was activated on site and each pour was used for 2 weeks. Mixing a batch required suiting up. Venting the fumes was required by OSHA. Daily logging of test strips, temp check, individual logging of each soak and a timed rinse were involved. Then we switched to Cidex OPA. By comparison it was easier and cheaper. Soak time 12 min. No test strips, no thermometers. The solution was still used for only 2 weeks but shelf life of the unused portion in the gallon jug was much longer. Minimal protective attire was required and no venting. I should have been happy. But no. My issue with both of these methods was the solution being poured down the drain on a regular basis. How could there not be effects on our liquid environment here by the Everglades? Maybe what we need is a better sheath.
