I would love some input from some medical institutions or informed individuals on billing for BIOPHYSICAL PROFILES.

We have always included AFI and UAR in the BPP - CPT code 76818 But, as I am reading what is included in the BPP, (which is a fluid evaluation, which on our protocol is a 1 cm pocket) an AFI is extra and we could charge 76815. If the referring physician wants weight/ dates we charge 76816 ( OB limited )in addition to the BPP charge. And, we could also charge 76820 for the umbilical artery doppler. I understand that the referring physician needs to request these things, but what are most other places charging and including in this exam? I think the standards for a BPP are higher and the charge does not reflect this. Thanks.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
