They do not get infected, at least I have never seen that. Of course things might be different in India or Pakistan, or elsewhere. Since being a member of this forum, I have been very impressed with how differently things are in different parts of the world. Kind of like the story of the three blind men to are examining the elephant. Each felt a different part of the elephant and each came to a different conclusion about what they were "seeing".

Medicine is certainly different in different parts of the world, depending on the system used by the government (for example USA and UK use entirely different systems), the education of the public, the amount of money available for health care, etc, frequency of consanquinous marriages, nutritional level, and probably many other factors.

So I am speaking about Nabothian cysts from my experience in the USA.

Thanks Allen. But perhaps if these get infected (do they?), would your approach be different? Joe.

I know Latha does not agree but I do not think they are ever significant. I ignore them completely.

Since I document my ultrasound exams on SVHS video tape, and narrate the tape as I do the scan, the patient can hear what I am saying, and as soon as they hear the word "cyst" they of course panic, so I always explain that cysts in the cervix are of no significance, almost all women have them, and they have nothing to do with ovarian cysts.

Hi all, I found multiple Nabothian cysts (5 in all) of sizes varying from 5 to 12 mm. in the cervix of this 49 yr. old female patient.] When or at what sizes or appearance are these cysts significant? I have attached an image (transverse section ) of the cervix... dont know if it will come thru. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
