DIRECTOR

AREA HEALTH EDUCATION CENTER - NORTHEAST

UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS FOR MEDICAL SCIENCES

Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Director, AHEC - Northeast. The AHEC Director is the administrative head of all AHEC programs, activities, facilities, staff and services within the area.

AHEC - Northeast was founded in 1974. It is one of seven Area Health Education Centers authorized by the Arkansas Legislature and is an extension of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Fifteen counties in northeastern Arkansas are included within the AHEC. Administrative offices are at 223 East Jackson, Jonesboro, along with the Family Medicine Center. Responsibilities

Responsibilities involve planning, organizing, directing, supporting and evaluating all AHEC programs and activities, including:

! College of Medicine Student Programs

! College of Nursing Student Clinical Program

! College of Pharmacy Student Clinical Rotations

! Continuing Education Programs

! Family Medicine Residency Programs

! AHEC Library

! Development and Fundraising

The Director provides leadership for faculty and other professional AHEC staff with delegated responsibilities for program operation.

Qualifications

The applicant must be doctorally prepared in a health care field and have demonstrated professional leadership in relationships with hospitals, physicians and other health care providers. Examples of acceptable backgrounds are in medicine, pharmacy, nursing, public health, dentistry, health education, the behavioral sciences, health services administration and the allied health professions. Applicants should have credentials appropriate for faculty appointment in the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Applicants should have a commitment to the AHEC concept, a demonstrated ability to set goals, motivate people, manage budgets, cultivate innovation and secure funds for development.

The AHEC Director is the principal liaison with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and should possess abilities sufficient for effective contacts with Deans and Directors of the various academic and administrative components.

Salary/Work Schedule

Salary will be commensurate with university rates. Full time position. The beginning date of employment is negotiable; however, the preferred date is July 1, 2006.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
