Re: TV scan male or female sonographerFrom: Terry DuBose (terrydubose@sbcglobal.net)Sun Jan 29 19:39:20 2006
With a chaperone present, I always ask the patient to insert the endovaginal transducer like a tampon, explaining that she should stop if anything is painful. She is covered, and I tell her I will take the handle once I see the image on the monitor… I keep my attention on the image. It has been a long time since I had a woman refuse this method. In the 1980’s, I had a couple of elderly women who had passed menopause before the advent of tampons and they had never used one. They seemed embarrassed to insert the transducer and said that I should. In those two cases, with a chaperon present, I did. Back before that time, before I left radiography, we radiologic technologist (male and female) also catherized children regardless of gender for voiding video cystograms. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
