Good points. I think we will always have an uphill battle with regards to the public's perception of the skill required for ultrasound. How many times, when showing a patient a beautiful fetal profile, have patients told you what a great machine you have? Genuine concerns about fetal damage from diagnostic soundwaves are a total absurdity. I can't believe anyone who does ultrasound for a living seriously believes this. There's much more harm done by ACR representatives voicing such ridiculous concerns, thereby possibly deterring patients from getting needed scans. Forget the FDA, if/when they get around to investigating this, the baby will be eligible for pre-school. Can't help wondering where the Cruise/Holmes obstetrician is in all of this? The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
