Re: Maternal Fetal Medicine FoundationFrom: James Smeltzer (James.Smeltzer@wellstar.org)Mon Sep 26 12:28:12 2005
Hi If you have an indication for 76811 that they do not recognize, provide supporting documentation (Medical literature and ACOG opinions and guidelines are best) and appeal. My AR person has not informed me of any problems getting paid for indicated work by Aetna, but i will ask again if you did this with no success... Details are good to provide, especially if this is a matter in which there is a MFM concensus. Do not expect them to pay this code without a specific indication, as this is what used to be a targeted scan. Even though my sonographers complain that we are doing targeted exams on everyone we don't expect to be paid for them unless there is a reason. ;^) The 76805 is the correct code to bill for a complete sonogram for normal indications and dating. Hope this helps. Jim SMeltzer

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
