Ultrasound schools?

Hi. I am interested in changing careers to be an ultrasound technician and/or diagnostic medical sonographer. I have a bachelor's degree in education, and I have been visiting quite a few institutes and small colleges offering courses that will supposedly lead to adequate qualifications. The problem is, lots of these schools have been giving me all kinds of different answers, so now I don't know what is the truth and what isn't.

Will a reputable health clinic or hospital hire me after I complete one of these training programs?

What is the real difference between CAAHEP programs and non-CAAHEP programs?

Is it true you cannot become ARDMS certified until you work one full year as a sonographer?

Is one of these programs worth it? (the 7-9 month length is typically how long the course takes)

Should I take an alternate route to do this career?

Please email me or post back, because I am really interested, but don't have any idea how to proceed.

Thanks a lot!

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
